University Communications and Public Affairs

University Communications and Public Affairs plays an integral part in planning and communicating the latest and greatest happenings at UC San Diego. Here are a few examples of how we tell our story:

Structural and Materials Engineering Building Dedication

In September of 2012, the campus dedicated the Structural and Materials Engineering. The program and open house with lab tours was a fitting showcase a unique facility housing structural engineers, nanoengineers, medical device researchers and visual artists all under one roof.

$18.5 Million Gift That Transforms

When an anonymous donor gave UC San Diego the largest-ever financial gift by and alumnus to the computer science and engineering department we worked with departments of development and alumni to generate broad outreach through earned media, campus communications and other outlets. This is a service we provide for development and alumni as their communications partners. Print advertising, interviews and online coverage were included in the effort.

Website: Center for Excellence in Nanomedicine

The Center of Excellence in Nanomedicine (CEN) develops novel nano- and biomaterials that will enable the future of biological research and medicine. UCPA’s web team created a dynamic website that can be updated by CEN staff. The site allows CEN to reach stakeholders around the world as it grows its presence in a still-young arena of research.

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama

A rare opportunity to host His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama came in 2012. In conjunction with two other San Diego universities, UC San Diego showcased a public speaking engagement by His Holiness to a sellout crowd of 4000 attendees at RIMAC Arena.

Photography: Geisel Library

Geisel Library is an iconic landmark on the UC San Diego campus. The facility projects distinct facades, colors, and moods depending on the time of day and the visitor’s perspective. UCPA photographer Erik Jepsen works to capture this range of the library’s character.

Diversity Folder and Inserts

This folder and custom inserts were targeted to prospective donors to help them learn more about the breadth of diversity programs and initiatives on campus. It was important to our client, the director of diversity development, to portray actual UC San Diego students. The format allowed for customizing the inserts and messages to targeted audiences.

Scripps Center for Oceans and Human Health Video

The Scripps Center for Oceans and Human Health targets contaminants that make their way from the sea to the human food chain. UCPA created this brief video for the center’s launch. Interviews with the co-directors illuminate the center’s mission as well as UC San Diego’s unique interdisciplinary culture that facilitates such investigation.
